Tongeren is the oldest city in Belgium. Known for the hero Ambiorix, it is a place packed with history, culture and antiques. Every Sunday morning Tongeren transforms into one large antique market. Afterwards you can discover the story of the Gallo-Romans in the museum of the same name.

Genk

In Genk you can discover the world. In addition to the well-known C-Mine on the old Winterslag coal mining site, Labiomista by Koen Van Mechelen is also worth a visit. Be surprised by the versatility of Genk!

Zoutleeuw

Thanks to the cloth trade, Zoutleeuw developed into one of the most important cities of the Duchy of Brabant in the 13th century. Visit the beautiful 16th century town hall, the cloth hall and the St. Leonardus Church. Het Vinne nature reserve invites you to take a nice walk, with a tasty pancake afterwards...

Just across the border, Maastricht in the Netherlands is a nice day trip. Get lost in the pleasant shopping streets and enjoy a drink on the Vrijthof. TIP: look for the bookstore in a former Dominican church!

Abbey of Herkenrode

The Cistercian abbey of Herkenrode is located in a nature reserve of no less than 100 hectares. In addition to the abbey, the estate has a large herb garden, impressive farm buildings, a working old mill, and much more... You can always enjoy coffee and cake in the renovated horse stables. TIP: visit the impressive work of art 'The silent view' by the Belgian artist Hans Op de Beeck.

be-MINE Beringen

The Beringen mine site is the largest industrial heritage site in Flanders and is unique in Europe. Of all the other mining sites in Limburg, it is the only site where the industrial heart of the mine has been preserved. Under the name be-MINE, the site is now being repurposed as a tourist-recreational project. Climb the mine slag heap, visit the experience center or take a dip among the fish!

Open Air Museum Bokrijk

Bokrijk is recommended for young and old. The open-air museum has a unique collection of authentic buildings from different Flemish regions and periods. During the summer, volunteers in costumes perform the roles of teacher, pastor, the shamer... from 100 years ago. You can try out different crafts, such as bakery and leatherworker. Next to the museum you will find a free playground and 'Cycling through the Water'.

Japanese Garden Hasselt

The Japanese Garden was designed for Hasselt by the garden architect of the Japanese emperor, as a symbol of friendship. It is the largest Japanese garden in Europe! Enjoy Japanese minimalism, tranquil water features with koi fish, bonzais and Japanese pagodas. Between April and October there are various events and workshops to familiarize you with Japanese culture, tea ceremonies, calligraphy and so much more.

Landcommanderij Alden Biesen

Alden Biesen was once the headquarters of the Teutonic Order, but is now a beautiful heritage site. Discover the large domain, the church, the English and French gardens. Would you like to experience the history of Alden Biesen differently? With the interactive game 'The Conspiracy' you solve a murder mystery while walking through the site.

Syrup Factory Borgloon

The 'Stroopfabriek' is one of the last remnants of the industrial processing of fruit into syrup. In the beautifully restored buildings you will discover the story of the Haspengouw fruit and its processing. You will also find the tourist reception of Borgloon with a regional products shop.
